Starting & charging
Car won’t start at home in Pittsburgh? Start with these observations.
No crank, clicking or slow cranking: what to tell your mobile mechanic before a no-start visit.

Describe what happens when you try to start
“It won’t start” can describe several different problems. Does the engine turn normally without firing? Does it turn slowly? Do you hear rapid clicking, a single click, or nothing at all? These observations help a technician plan the diagnostic visit without guessing which part needs replacement.
Tell us whether the problem happened suddenly or became more frequent over several days. A recent battery replacement, jump-start, repair or warning light can also be useful context. If you can safely record the sound from inside the vehicle, keep that short clip for the technician.
A clicking sound does not identify the failed part
Rapid clicking can occur when the starting system has insufficient voltage. A single click can have a different cause. The battery, connections, wiring and starter circuit need to be evaluated together; a sound alone is not a reliable parts diagnosis.
A successful jump-start does not, by itself, explain why the battery became discharged. Installing a new battery does not rule out a connection, charging-system or starting-circuit problem. Testing first can help avoid paying for a part that does not resolve the concern.
What to send with your service request
Include the vehicle year, make and model, its exact location and the best callback number. A VIN or license plate and state help identify the vehicle accurately. Describe whether it cranks, what sounds you hear and whether the dash lights change.
Mention parking restrictions, a steep driveway or limited room around the vehicle. Mokanex serves Pittsburgh and surrounding communities, but the specific job and location determine whether a mobile visit is appropriate.
When to stop trying
Stop repeated starting attempts if you notice smoke, a burning smell or another unsafe condition. Do not work around traffic or reach into moving components. A vehicle in an unsafe location may need roadside assistance or towing before diagnosis can begin.
For a vehicle parked safely at home or work, request a diagnostic visit. We can review the symptoms and explain the next step before recommending a battery, starter or other repair.
